Live Like A Cat

Lessons from my cat Dragon:

Live life on your own terms.
Take more naps.
Be unapologetically you.
If you want attention, ask for it.

Do you tend to overthink things? I know I do. Becoming a lawyer was therefore natural for me, but spending all that time thinking about possible outcomes and strategizing for my cases ultimately made this harder on me. I used my brain WAY more than my heart, making TONS of excuses for my feelings and then getting upset at loved ones when they couldn't read my mind and give me what I wanted. Logic has no place in the heart. I'm learning to ask for what I want - and if I don't get it, then I can decide what to do from there. It's actually really simple: compromise or move on.

Of course, cats don't compromise. But they do make clear what they want. If Dragon wants to be fed, he'll trip me up in the kitchen until I feed him. If she wants to be pet, he's in my lap purring.

Ani Difranco said it best:

"The one person who really knows me best/Says that I'm like a cat/Yeah, the kind of cat that you just can't pick up and throw into your lap/No, the kind who doesn't mind being held, but only when it's her idea/Yeah, the kind who feels what she decides to feel when she's good and ready to feel it "
