I haven't talked at all about the shooting in Orlando. It hits close to home, and I haven't been able to find anything positive to bring to the conversation, so I've been sitting back and taking it all in.
But today at church I welled up with tears upon seeing this - a manifestation of kindness and grace that can only be described as beautiful.
These Angels got together, constructed and wore wings 10 feet wide and 7 feet tall to block protesters at the funeral for the victims of the Orlando shootings.
Yes, you read right: there were homophobic PROTESTERS at the funeral for the victims of a hate shooting. If this is something you've never heard of, go ahead and look up Westboro Baptist Church - they've been organizing hate-based protests in the name of God at funerals for LGBT persons for decades. (I first learned about them protesting at the funeral of brutally murdered Matthew Shepard in the 90s).
I was so touched by the humanity today when I heard about the real angels that walk among us. I felt the presence of God. And I'm throwing up gratefulness for all of those who do what they can to make a devastating situation easier on those who have to endure it.
